  11. REGISTERING SOUND ROUNDUP AND THE 7.0 PLUS UTILITIES
  12. ====================================================
  13. Sound RoundUp is not free. Sites using this software MUST register it by
  14. sending a few dollars to the author. Or you can consider the following.
  15.  
  16. 7.0 PLUS Utilities is a package of all (more than 25) System 7.0 utilities
  17. I have written. You can get the disk with all of them NOW (not wait until
  18. I decide to upload the next program) by sending $29.95 to me. This will
  19. register you for all the software, will get you a disk of the software, and
  20. an update to the PLUS Utilities when it rolls around. It’s a pretty good
  21. deal. You should register your software, anyway, so why not do it
  22. like this? And it’s a lot cheaper this way.

  28. USING SOUND ROUNDUP
  29. ====================

  34. What Does Sound RoundUp Do?
  35. ---------------------------
  36. •  Sound RoundUp, a drag-and-drop utility (Drop Rob-Box), finds all 'snd '
  37.     resources in selected files and copies them into a folder or suitcase
  38.     that it creates. It is capable of scanning entire directories and disks.
  39.  
  40. Using Sound RoundUp
  41. -------------------
  42. •  Drag sets of files, folders, or disks into the application, “Drop Box-
  43.     style”. Sound RoundUp will scan folders and disks provided, and will
  44.     scan, all files, directories, and disks, no matter what their depth.
  45.     Drop Boxes require Apple Events, and thus System 7.0 or higher.

  47. •  Double-click on Sound RoundUp to see the about box information.
  48.  
  49. •  If you drop an alias directly into Sound RoundUp (i.e. the a folder containing
  50.     the alias is not dropped over the application’s icon in the Finder), the
  51.     alias will be resolved automatically and the parent (the alias’ target) will
  52.     be scanned. For example, if you create an alias to your disk and drop it into
  53.     Sound RoundUp, your entire disk will be scanned. The same goes for
  54.     applications and other files.
  55.  
  56. •  To cancel processing, just type a command-period. Files already processed
  57.     will remain modified.

  59. Creating a Sound Library
  60. ----------------------
  61. When you drop an item into Sound RoundUp, it asks you what type of library
  62. you wish to create. A suitcase is similar to the System or Desk Accessory
  63. file. It is one file that contains all the sound resources together. But this
  64. special file acts much like a folder in the Finder in that you can double-click
  65. on it and see a window displaying its contents, drag sounds in or out, etc.
  66. Create a folder if you want your sounds to be separate files inside a directory.
  67.  
  68. •  If duplicate sound names are detected when saving sounds to a folder,
  69.     Sound RoundUp appends a number to the name. The first occurrence of a
  70.     sound does not have a number. So if you have three sounds named “Beep”,
  71.     Sound RoundUp will call them “Beep”, “Beep 1”, and “Beep 2”.

  73. •  If unnamed sounds are detected in either saving mode, they are given
  74.     the name “Untitled” with a number appended. The first occurrence of an
  75.     untitled sound is given a number.
  76.  
  77. •  Sounds from open files may not be copied.
  78.  
  79. •  If Sound RoundUp is scanning a file which requires a large amount of
  80.     memory to load, it may not be able to copy the resources. Increase the
  81.     memory allocation to the program through the Finder’s info window.
  82.     An example of one such item is HyperCard.
  83.  
  84. USING DROP BOXES
  85. =================
  86. Drop Boxes are applications (drag-and-drop utilities) which can take advantage
  87. of System 7.0’s Apple Events. To use them, just drag a file over the application
  88. icon just as you would drag a file over a folder to move it into that directory.
  89. The Drop Box is then opened and processing is done. The program then quits.
  90. You can also throw in whole directories and disks. You don’t have to throw in
  91. just one, either. Select a whole bunch of files, directories, or disks, or any
  92. combination of the three, and dump them in. The Drop Box will scan for
  93. files of the required type and modify them accordingly. All files in all
  94. directories within those dropped in will be modified. Any aliases dropped
  95. directly into a Drop Box (not inside a directory) are resolved by the Finder
  96. and thus their target (parent) is modified.
